The history of twentieth century opera. 1960B.
1960, not particullarly an outstanding year. But, nevertheless, there were some highlights in the land of music – especially in opera. There was, among others, the premiere of Symphony no. 3, by Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and on October 16, the poem “Anaklasis” by Krzystof Penderecki. There isn’t much fun in the land of opera, but before we dismiss this year entirely, we will listen to some beautiful pieces, including “A Midsummer Nights Dream” by Benjamin Britten and Otto Klemperer, who conducts German ouvertures by the Philharmonia Orchestra.
