Contemporary Music

The Australian composer Nigel Westlake (1958) has become well-known because of his music for successful films such as ‘Babe’ (about an intelligent pig) and IMAX films about the South Pole and such. However, with his works for orchestra and bass clarinet and guitar he can be rated among the greatest orchestra composers. His music tends to become very smooth but then, fortunately, moves in unpredictable directions. We have three works on our programme: Invocations, Antarctica and Out of the Blue. The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra is conducted by David Porcelijn.
