Maximal Marc Mellits.
In the multi-current country of minimalism, rock music and jazz the American composer Marc Mellits (1966) moves himself. Extraordinary eclectic music full of spicy, over each other tumbling rhythms, colourful instrumentations and enchanting melodies. Mellits excells in short, physical pieces where he summons a complete sound world of its own, full of cinematic images. Maximal music which was performed by the Kronos Quartet, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bang on a Can All Stars. Moreover, Mellits runs his own band, the Mellits Consort. In this Theme broadcast a small look behind the scenes of Mellits, with a lot of work from his Mellits Consort and some recent released string quartets.
