Music from bygone years.
This time there’s quite a bit of Dutch content: Rita Reys (‘Soon it’s gonna rain’), a remarkable bar song by Conny Vandenbos, who pours out her heart to the bartender (‘Another cocktail Joe’), former dancer Aart Brouwer who recorded the special ‘Hey Pssst…!’ with Johnny & his Cellar Rockers, a comical Conny Stuart (‘There come the shooters’) and a glimpse into Haarlem by Joop Visser (‘Sometimes you get into a situation’).
Also included are Marie Laforet (1939-2019) with her cover of The Stones’ ‘Paint it black’, Miles Davis, swing by Harry James, Jo Stafford.
And furthermore, Ella Fitzgerald (‘Born to be blue’), drummer Chick Webb, a bluesy Mel Tormé (‘In the evening’), crooner Dick Haymes on a beautiful Capitol album from his later days (‘Isn’t it a lovely day?’), Anita O’Day with Gene Krupa, and musical instrument repairman Ted Daffan, who was discovered as a singer and scored a million-seller with ‘Born to lose’.
