Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.
Digging for music treasures in The Palace, we share with you Johnny & Jones singing ‘We hoeven niet te hamsteren’ (a song about hoarding), a captivating spring song by the Dutch orchestra ‘Vrij en Blij’, featuring Ger de Roos.
And we have more. What about Ella Fitzgerald (on the album ’Swings Lightly’), Blossom Dearie in her French period, Barbara (‘Au Bois de Saint-Amand’), the virtuoso harmonica player Larry Adler and Cornelis Vreeswijk singing a Swedish version of a famous Whitsun song as well as his charming ‘Veronica’.
We’ll follow that up with a live recording of percussionist Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers, the once world famous crooner Dick Haymes, who ended so sadly and forgotten, a jazzy Gerrie van der Klei, Glen Gray’s swingband, jazz drummer and vibraphonist Johnny Lytle, and from the Stone Age of recording, we’ll have Frank & Phil Crow, who let us in about the peace that awaits in Abraham’s embrace when the angels have taken them to heaven.
In short, let’s forget our daily worries playing yesterday’s music.
