Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.
Plenty of obscurities this week. With a sadly failing version of ‘Dream a Little Dream of Me’ by macho-man actor Robert Mitchum, completely forgotten Dutch top vocalist Riedel van Kleef, the overlooked jazz talent of blues talent Lil Green, virtuoso pianist Art Tatum who accidentially gave Vladimir Horowitz a nervous breakdown with his rendition of ‘Tea for Two’, master impersonator Stan Freberg who broke down ‘The Yellow Rose of Texas’ by weepy men’s choir Mitch Miller & The Gang and rebuilt is in an amazing way. We also play Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Coleman Hawkins, a moving Toon Hermans, Jo Stafford, Milt Jackson and Fletcher Henderson. In short, an hour of rummaging through our musical attic.
