Music in leisure time. The oratorio ‘Een zee van leugens’ (An ocean of lies) was commissioned by the Early Music Foundation Lelystad, especially for Flevoland. ‘Een zee van leugens’ consists of 21 songs for choir and 4 soloists. It is a light-footed oratorio about the phenomenon of ‘a breached dike’, on a text by Wilbert Friedrichs.
After the inhabitants of Flevoland sing the praises of the sea there is a warning: There is a breach in the dike! Although there is doubt, they do not believe it. They feel despair and search for someone or something to blame, the punishment by God or a higher plan. All kinds of solutions are reviewed: We have to pray or we are going to party while we still can. Until someone finds out what is really going on. Lies!
