Arnold Böcklin made five versions of his famous painting ‘Die Toteninsel’.
They can be found in Kunstmuseum Basel, Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, Alte Nationalgalerie Berlijn, Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig. The fifth version was owned by banker and art collector Heinrich Thyssen and was destroyed during the bombing of Berlin during World War II.
