The guitar in the previous century XIII.
A monthly series featuring guitar music from the previous century, with each episode including a guitar concert. Today’s focus is on Manuel Maria Ponce, one of the greatest Mexican composers, who also wrote a lot of music for the guitar.
This was due to his friendship with Andrés Segovia, the Spanish guitarist for whom many composers wrote music in the previous century. Segovia is one of the guitarists who brought the guitar to the big stages. Ponce was a versatile composer. His compositions were influenced by baroque music and music from the romantic period. However, elements of Mexican folk music can often be heard in his compositions as well.
