Music composed in Scandinavia in 1922.
Today another episode featuring music composed precisely one hundred years ago.
The program begins in Denmark with an orchestral suite by the “other” Nielsen: not Carl, but his contemporary Ludolf (pictured).
Afterwards, we will listen to the Fifth Symphony by the Swede Kurt Atterberg. His so-called ‘Sinfonia funèbre’ does not sound everywhere as gloomy as the subtitle suggests.
At the end of the broadcast, there is a short piano work by Finn Jean Sibelius, played on his grand piano.
- Ludolf Nielsen: Forest Walk, Op. 40 (‘Skovvandring’).
