Music by 20th-century composers.
Beethoven and the 20th century – 9
Today, the ninth episode in a series of programmes with works of 20th-century and 21st-century composers which are inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Frist, Sonata for Orchestra in C minor, opus 30 No.2b. It is an arrangement of Beethoven’s Seventh Violin Sonata by Garrett Schumann and Yaniv Segal from 2016.
Next, you hear BEETHOVEN9 Symphonic Remix of Gabriel Prokofiev (grandson of Sergei). The piece has been based on the last part of the Ninth Symphony. Prokofiev uses the melodic cells and the theme of ‘Ode an die Freude’, and transforms them to all kinds of music styles: modernism, minimalism, hip hop, Grime, North African rai, neoclassic music, impressionism, Egyptian funk, Sufi Zikr, baroque, house and electro-acoustic music.
We conclude with two contributions to the project ‘250 Piano Pieces for Beethoven’ by the German pianist Susanne Kessel.
