The Last Century
Part I
Tuesday 12 March 20:00
Produced and presented by: Thijs Bonger
‘Images and Music’ were the focus of our newsletter. Reason enough for Thijs Bonger to write an article about the Études-tableaux, composed by Rachmaninov with the paintings of Arnold Böcklin at the back of his mind. Music steeped in nostalgia. Today in part I of the diptych ‘A picture of Rachmaninov’, the first series of etudes, opus 33. Partially played by the legendary Svjatoslav Richter. And we will hear some recordings that were polished up miraculously, from the composer himself. Part II will air on 19 March.
