Dutch Jazz en more. Singer Ineke Vandoorn and guitarist Marc van Vugt dive into the contemporary Dutch jazz delta.
This fourth episode focuses on the guitar in contemporary Dutch jazz. Acoustic and electric guitar, solo guitar and in larger ensembles. What’s special about the guitar is that there are so many different types and those guitars can differ from each other: steel-stringed western guitars, nylon-stringed flamenco guitars, classical guitars, and then all those variations in electric guitars.
Previously, the use of a particular type of guitar was often linked to a music style, such as the Gypsy jazz guitar. Nowadays, that style-bound connection has almost disappeared, but you can still hear the influence of the type of guitar in how the music is played. This creates a particularly colorful palette that is also reflected in jazz music. Tonight, we’ll listen to some examples.
