Adulated crossovers.
Since Ravi Shankar and Yehudi Menuhin crossed their musical swords in 1966, the flow of crossovers featuring Indian music has never dried up. Not all of them are original or surprising, but singer Shweta Jhaveri stands out with her album Anahita, which she recorded with musicians from the scene of jazz guitarist Bill Frisell. Less known perhaps, but extraordinary is the album that singer Sandhya Sanjana [see photo] – from Mumbai but now living in the Netherlands – recorded in 2009 carrying the intriguing title Random Access Melody.
