Slipped through the net

wed 17 jan 2018 21:00 hour
Composer: Michel Portal

Special crossover music, chosen by Ton Maas.
Mastery on the didgeridoo.

It’s one of the easiest musical instruments that is out there: a wooden trunk which is eroded by termites. It has no mouthpiece, nor vents, so the player needs to create the sound theirself. Although Stephen Kent is not an Australian, he is, however, seen as one of the best didgeridoo players in the world. Many times he could not be listened to live in the Netherlands, but from 20 January he has a few shows in our country together with (bass) clarinettist Beth Custer. In this episode of ‘Slipped through the net’ we pay attention to two of Kent’s projects: the trio he formed with two renowned French jazz musicians – Michel Portal and Mino Cinelu – and the group Trance Mission, which he founded in the early 1990’s together with Beth Custer.
