Strugglin.
Strugglin’ is Justin Felton, the Brooklyn born and raised musician and multi-instrumentalist. Having previously explored sound under the moniker Barraco Barner, Pitch Pine is the first documentation of this new identity, and the latest installment of THERE, Commend’s ongoing series of music recorded beyond but inspired by the communal efforts of RVNG Intl.’s Lower East Side space.

The Humble Bee.
Craig Tattersall aka The Humble Bee, deploying a typically lovely, absorbing set of frayed strum and sublime domestic rustles.
Tattersall has been a crucial node of post-rock, leftfield ambient and ambient composition since the late ‘90s, with a catalogue that links Hood to The Remote Viewer, CCO, and The Boats across dozens of coveted CDs, tapes, and vinyl editions, many of them self released on one of his many private edition labels.
No doubt there’s craft at play here which is more elusively electro-acoustic and handmade than much of the work produced by new ambient lambs, but it’s not hard to hear why Motion Ward, among many contemporary explorers, are flocking his delicate haptics for inspiration, he just oozes an effortless, liminal sense that’s been accompanying us for over two decades now.

Rudolf Eb.er & Will Guthrie.
Based in Osaka and Nantes respectively, Rudolf Eb.er and Will Guthrie have both forged unique and quite different paths in numerous disciplines of experimental music over the past decades and created extensive bodies of work, both as soloists and in collaboration with other artists from around the world.
»Hilt« is the first collaboration of two artists who, based on their previous musical work, seem very different at first glance. However, it quickly becomes apparent, that the distinct approaches to composition and sound complement each other perfectly and make this album a very special and exciting affair. The closer you listen, the more you will be drawn into it and realize that the rhythmic drumming, the careful arrangements of hiss, crackle and eerie muttering paired with fragmented bits of percussive noises make »Hilt« a very coherent whole. A very organic and ritual-like album I would say, captivating and a little daunting at the same time.

Universal Liberation Orchestra.
Communion, privately released in an impossibly small edition of twenty five cassettes in 1986, is a beguiling, politically underpinned meditation of cosmic improvisation and wayward folk music from Cleveland’s Universal Liberation Orchestra.

Sote.
Ata ‘Sote’ Ebtekar composes music with a deeply-held conviction that rules and formulas should be deconstructed and rethought. He alters musical modal codes from their original tonality and rhythmic tradition to achieve vivid, synthetic soundscapes. Over the last three decades, his work has been published by labels such as Warp, Sub Rosa, Opal Tapes, Diagonal, Mute and Morphine, among others. In 2018, he founded a new label called ‘Zabte Sote’, which focuses on releases by Iranian experimental electronic composers from around the globe.

Anna Lerchbaumer.
Anna Lerchbaumer is an Austrian sound and video artist living in Vienna. In her research and artistic practice, she echoes the relationship between nature and technology. An examination of raw materials (often found or obsolete) and an exploration of the sonic and spacial possibilities they offer. Anna creates multi-media installations and sound performances in which sculptural aspects play an important role. She spans a field between visual art, music and performance. Objects become instruments, balloons become performers and field recordings become installations. She reveals the poetic in the everyday and makes it audible and visible. A change of perspective, a desecration of electrical devices and a possibility to rethink the things surrounding us.

Ben Vida & Lea Bertucci.
Longstanding figures in New York City experimental music scene – both noted for pushing electroacoustic music into highly individualized realms – Ben Vida and Lea Bertucci began collaborating during the Summer of 2021, while living on opposite sides of the same mountain outside of Woodstock, NY. What began as a series of conversations between friends, slowly formed into the development of a unique form of nonhierarchical improvisation that challenged and rethought the nature of dialog and language itself; intertwining their respective practices into a series of fluid compositions where the identities and locations of each artist become progressively obscure.

Silver Apples.
Silver Apples were an American electronic rock group from New York, active between 1967 and 1970, before reforming in the mid-1990s. It was composed of Simeon (born Simeon Oliver Coxe III, June 4, 1938 – September 8, 2020), who performed on a primitive synthesizer of his own devising; and, until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. The duo were among the first to employ electronic music techniques outside of academia, applying them to 1960s rock and pop styles.

Freundliche Kreisel.
Emerging from Lower Franconia’s hidden reverse, Johannes Schebler, known as ambient-poltergeist “Baldruin” and surreal folklorists Christian Schoppik & Katie Rich of “Brannten Schnüre”-fame have puzzled and amazed outernational audiences from the stranger end of the avant/lo-fi spectrum in recent years. The trio is now collectively dreaming as “Freundliche Kreisel”, reaching for terra incognita rather than common ground on their most bewildering and accessible outing to date. Arch-pontifices of the electro-acoustic and outsider-art realm, they fill in gaps and invent missing links on the go with somnambulistic ease, confusing the hypersensitive and hyaline timbres of contempo-electronic aesthetics with the naïve
charm of Germany’s obscure Kassettentäter and mutant-NDW.

Linus Hillborg.
Linus Hillborg’s solo debut lures listeners through despaired soundscapes of justly tuned electroacoustic orchestral arrangements seeped in rich harmonic synthesis.
Magelungsverket is a rendering of materials from one of Hillborg’s technology repurposing projects, Orphan Works, where an obsolete game engine was modified to create an interactive installation in which participants drive through a fractured manifestation of Stockholm. Displaced, uncanny narratives and depictions of both real and semi-fictional locations in Stockholm that could have existed — but do not — and the spaces that end up in between, procures distinct sequences of sound constructed with the Buchla 200 system, programmed synthesis, bowed cymbals, metal clarinet, and tape machines.

LEYA.
Eyeline, the new mixtape from LEYA — violinist and vocalist Adam Markiewicz and harpist Marilu Donovan — began to take shape last November while the duo was on tour. It was recorded mostly at home with friends, including Actress, Julie Byrne, Deli Girls, Okay Kaya, claire rousay, Sunk Heaven, and Martha Skye Murphy. LEYA describe the mixtape as the origin of sight, “like seeing the one who is watching.” Eyeline is an imperfect parade for charmed constellations — an ethereal blend of neofolk and neoclassical darkwave.
