aya.
Contorting language, dialect, gender and sexuality between intermittently controlled bursts of rhythm, noise and aural goop, she has sculpted a set of autobiographical vignettes that challenge established norms, question supposed truths and affirm a spectrum of interlocking experiences.

Andrew Pekler & Giuseppe Ielasi.
Both noted for strikingly forward-thinking bodies of solo work dating back to the 1990s, the duo of Andrew Pekler & Giuseppe Ielasi – collaborators for the better part of a decade – reemerge with ‘Palimpsests’, their first outing with Shelter Press. Built from deconstructed layers of texture, tone, and arrhythmic percussiveness, the album’s 2 sides distill 6 years of work into 9 splintered, airy reimaginings of minimalism – each surprising, creatively rigorous, and startlingly beautiful – that rest at the outer reaches of contemporary electroacoustic practice and musique concrète.

Id M Theft Able.
The initial idea for “Well I Fell in Love with the Eye at the Bottom of the Well” was actually to attempt to make a doo wop song with that as the title. I kept adding more and more ideas and those ideas blossomed into other ideas to the extent that there’s only the faintest hint of that initial doo wop impulse on the album but a whole other sort of garden grew up around it and through it. It was probably a decade from the moment that that title popped into my head as an idea for a doo wop song to its completion as a full length album, one that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with doo wop.

Stuart Chalmers.
After a spell dusting old memories in the museum of imaginary sounds, now
loops tapes scavenged from the landfill of time. Occasionally string trance meditations.

CEP.
CEP (Caroline Elizabeth Polachek). Entirely made using sine waves, this is Polachek’s first instrumental album, and is a 60 minute collection of meditative, minimal pieces made in the background of her other projects from 2013-2016. Coming weeks after the announce of Chairlift’s breakup announcement, Drawing The Target Around The Arrow is an unexpected departure from the melodic vocals that have become her signature. In an interview with The Creative Independent, Polachek talks about making this record for “functional use” rather than as personal expression or for entertainment.

Max Syedtollan.
This collection of music from autodidact composer Max Syedtollan (fka Horse Whisperer) sees him elaborating upon the chamber music approach of 2019’s ‘Planctae’, in collaboration with London/Brussels collective ‘Plus-Minus Ensemble’ – presenting three new pieces all written in the last year.
Freewheeling narratives unravel to mutant, agile and often weirdly funny music – the everyday and the historical colliding in joyous ostranenie. Fractured string and woodwind arrangements vie with almost teenage-punk-bandy guitar ‘n’ drums, in an idiosyncratic yet irresistable explosion of virtuoso amateurism. Researches into esoteric archaeology leak into dissociative autobiography, the presence of ‘text’ flooding every corner of these strange and intricate musical microcosms.

Body/Dilloway/Head.
Aaron Dilloway operates as a solo artist, but collaborates ceaselessly, whether as a former member of Wolf Eyes or in innumerable other contexts. Body/Head is the duo of Kim Gordon and Bill Nace. Nace has charted an iconoclastic trajectory as a freewheeling improviser and composer on his own and in group settings. Gordon, best known as a member of Sonic Youth, was always active outside that band during its existence and continues to expand her tireless horizons since its dissolution.
To put it plain, on Body/Dilloway/Head there are guitars and vocals and magnetic tape and amplification. These elements interact with the aid of effects machines.

Jean-Luc Guionnet & Will Guthrie.
Maxed out and burning hot nasty, Electric Rag brings together the electric organs, electronics and alto sax of Jean-Luc Guionnet, with the closely amplified drums and percussion of Will Guthrie.
After years of playing together in the minimalist pointillist free jazz noise core trio ‘The Ames Room’ (with Clayton Thomas on bass) Electric Rag offers up another point of view on a musical history of nearly 15 years of playing together.
The 8 titles of Electric Rag draw on their various experience in electronic music, free improvisation and experimental sound research, however the music is deeply rooted in their love of jazz, in its most potent, aggressive and antisocial form.

Sarah Davachi & Sean McCann.
Mother of Pearl is the first duo album from composers Sarah Davachi and Sean McCann. Two people, a couple, recording together at home. A slow, autumnal album made with no preconceptions or planning. Intimate, intended for ourselves.
Sessions were captured simultaneously in two ways to build the shared space of perception. Sculpted hesitations made late at night. Short statements of melody are left space to rest and repose. The presence of room tone and the air are characters in all of these recordings – weaving freely within the music.
