American soprano Dawn Upshaw has shown a lot of versatility in the course of her career. She has sung countless recitals with songs from Monteverdi to John Adams. She dazzled in operas from Mozart to Messiaen and has won five Grammy Awards for recordings of mostly lesser-known repertoire.
On Radio Romantica she can be heard with her regular accompanist Richard Goode in songs by Schumann and Schubert. Of course, she became best known for her performance of Gorecki’s Symphony of Lamentations. The recording of which was sold millions of times. To finish off Radio Romantica she performs the captivating and wonderful Knoxville: Summer of 1905 by Samuel Barber, accompanied by St. Luke’s chamber orchestra conducted by David Zinman.
