In January 1966 Reinbert de Leeuw broke through with a piano recital in a series organised by Daniel Ruyneman in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Two months later he played piano in ‘Ittrospezione III’ of his friend Louis Andriessen in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was conducted by Andriessen himself and on second piano was Jan van Vlijmen.
Salient: three days after this concert in the series ‘Actuele muziek’ the three friends wrote an open letter to the management of the orchestra together with Misha Mengelberg and Peter Schat in which they accused them of programming too little contemporary music.
