Traditional classical music from the Egypt.
This episode is dedicated to the great Egyptian composer Mohamed El-Qasabgi (or Al- Qasabji) and his work with the legendary Umm Kulthum (Om Kolsoum). His work with Umm Kulthum between 1920s and 1940s is considered as one of the most progressive , creative and refined in the modern Arab song composition. He formed a duo with the poet Ahmad Rami and togather explored Umm Kulthum’s voice to the fullest and were a main force in her rise to the top.
El-Qasabgi also a Ud (Oud) innovator and virtuoso and was Umm Kulthum’s Oud player until his death in 1966.
We’ll listen to a live performance of their most famous works: Raq el-Habib from the 1950s and a couple of their typical romantic 1930s work .
