The history of twentieth century opera. 1967.
1967, the year of the first broadcast of sports programme Langs de Lijn on Dutch radio and the year in which the first commercials on Dutch television were aired (except on Sunday and Christian public holidays). Political party D66 joins the parliamentary elections for the first time; crown prince Willem-Alexander is born; Jeacques Brel gives his final concert. He cites his fear of losing his artistic edge as the reason for his farewell. In the music world there are two remarkable premieres: Guernica by Leonardo Balada and the first performance of the complete Symphony No. 2 composed by Witold Lutosławski. There were quite a few productions this year in the land of opera, although none of those are currently being performed frequently. All the more reason for a new broadcast.
