Today’s guest is band leader and bass player Vincent Henar.
Vincent Henar is founder, band leader and bass player of the band ‘Fra Fra Sound’. He is the driving force behind the band, which has been successful for 35 years, both locally and worldwide and has stood on the stages of over 50 countries. The band combines different elements from black music with their own sound; it’s jazz with worldly influences, from North American jazz and funk to Surinamese kaseko, kawina and winti and to African rhythms.
In the thirty five years since the founding of Fra Fra Sound, it has developed into a Afro-Caribbean jazz big band and is an important platform for new generations of musicians. Vincent Henar had devoted himself for years as an ambassador for Dutch and Surinamese culture to young and old musical talent and musical schooling. Since 2011 he was awarded the title Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau (Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau).
