The famous Concert Jazz Band by Gerry Mulligan (1927-1996).
This bigband usually consisted of 13 musicians (without piano !) and created a furore from 1960 to 1964. Baritone saxophone player Mulligan was not only a legendary soloist, but also an original composer and arranger. On top of that he always had a number of other excellent soloists in the band, such as valve trombone player Bob Brookmeyer, trumpet player Clark Terry, percussionist Mel Lewis who cannot be praised enough, and Nick Travis on lead trumpet. Today, live recordings from 1960 and 1961 – cracking performances with beautiful compositions by the leader, but also by Johnny Mandel, Al Cohn, George Russell and John Carisi.
