Music for the Easter season by four German composers from the 17th and 18th centuries.
We start with Thomas Selle, who spent a large part of his life working in Hamburg.
Then a cantata by Philipp Heinrich Erlebach (see image on the right), chapel master at the court of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt.
Next, we hear a cantata from Georg Philipp Telemann’s collection ‘Harmonischer Gottesdienst’, which is suitable for both church and domestic use due to its small ensemble.
Finally, a cantata by Christoph Graupner, chapel master at the court of Darmstadt, will be played. It is one of the approximately 1400 cantatas that have been preserved.
