In this special episode of Mariama, programme maker Rob Lokin will look ahead to the Afrika Festival which will take place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July in the beautiful open-air theatre in Hertme, Overijssel.

This will be the 35th edition of this renowned festival, which has been developed into the leading-edge festival on modern African music in Europe.

Festival programmer Rob Lokin and his son Hein have once again curated a surprising and exciting programme. In addition to the usual and always intriguing newcomers, they have invited seasoned veterans for this special anniversary edition who have previously performed in Hertme and were notably successful, such as Salif Keita (see photo), Nancy Vieira, and Bamba Wassoulou Groove.

So, Hertme promises to be a charming and musically exceptional weekend once again.
