Soundtracks from films all over the world.
Ocean’s Twelve
In this Let’s Movie, the soundtrack to ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ by director Steven Soderbergh. It is a sequel to the successful ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ from 2001, also directed by Soderbergh. ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ was a great success in the United States, but not such a success with the critics, as can be read on cinema.nl:
"Earlier this year, Amsterdam was filled with an air of excitement: Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Brad Pitt could be seen in the Dutch capital, as ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ was being filmed. The sequel to ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ (2002) offers no more than pictures of good-humored actors in pretty locations."
The explanation for the negative reviews can be found on filmmuziek.be, in a review by Arvid Vossen:
"The disappointment can be understood especially when looking at the plot. On the other hand, they did a fantastic job with the atmosphere and the editing, and the film sports a great psychedelic soundtrack by David Holmes. Nobody had heard of David Holmes mere years before, but his name can already be found in a number of big productions. He is from Belfast, where he began as DJ of soul and r ‘n’ b. He gained fame as a producer for acid house and techno music. In the nineties, his style evolved into more jazzy and psychedelic soundscapes. He made the "DeNiro" dance hit that was sampled by Ennio Morricone’s theme from the film "Once Upon a Time in America". His songs were used systematically in films and trailers for productions like ‘In the Name of the Father’, ‘The Game’, and ‘Meet Joe Black’. But it was his audio documentary about New York, full of sampled music from films, that pretty much became his CV for Danny DeVito’s ‘Out of Sight’ Hollywood production. After that, ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, ‘Analyse That’, and now ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ followed."
