L’Esprit Baroque

Er is nu pas bekend dat de 3 Funeral Sentences van Purcell niet gecomponeerd waren voor de begrafenis van Koningin Mary in 1695, omdat de zettingen van Morley toen gezongen werden.
Het enige aandeel van Purcell waren de 2 werken voor schuiftrompet alsook het anthem “Thou knowest, Lord”, dat Purcell schreef in Morley’s oude componeerstijl.
De muziek op deze CD wordt omlijst door Engelse consortsongs door Michael Chance met Fretwork en Christopher Field met The Royal Wind Music, en Fantazia’s van Purcell door Vittorio Ghielmi.
