A lot of attention today towards TOOTS THIELEMANS, also in this show.
Jean Baptiste Frédéric Isidor Baron Thielemans was his name when he was born in Brussels on 29 April 1922, which was exactly 100 years ago yesterday!
He had been playing harmonica since the age of four and in his teens he also played the guitar.
But it is mainly the harmonica (he always called it his sandwich) that has made him so famous.
Even in Brazil!
So today, in this Latin Jazz Hour, we have 10 tracks from his Brazil Project, in this case the second album (Volume II) that was released in 1993.
On it, Toots plays with the most famous Brazilian composers,
who are actually always also vocalists and guitarists (or in the case of Ivan Lins) pianists.
With as the last track a long performance of Bluesette, Toots’ most famous composition on which they all play and sing!
A Brazilian party in honour of Toots Thielemans and a nice ending of this Latin jazz dedicated to him.
