Jazznotjazz: New York Tenors from the loft scene
In the early 1970s, there was a small group of tenor saxophonists who were looking for new artistic direction. Due to societal, cultural, and economic developments – and the death of John Coltrane – they found themselves at a turning point in time. They teamed up, supported each other, and sought their direction. George Garzone, Bob Berg, Steve Grossman, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Bob Mintzer, Jerry Bergonzi, and Joe Lovano managed to survive and develop – perhaps precisely because of this – into strong personalities.
Steve Grossman – Pressure Point
Elvin Jones / David Liebman – Soultrane
Bob Berg – Neptune
George Carzone + Joe Lovano – Have you met miss Jones?
George Carzone – Ballad for Trane
Steve Grossman – Oleo
Jerry Bergonzi – Inner Urge
Gon Grolnick (feat. Michael Brecker) – Or Come Fog
