JazzNotJazz – The Pat Metheny Group
Jazzdrummer Felix Schlarmann’s 51st program for Dutch online radio Concertzender Nederland focusses on the music of the world famous Pat Metheny Group. The group’s music of the late 70’s and 80’s became music history.
Metheny and co-leader Lyle Mays influenced many musicians and built a bridge between fusion and jazz, reaching a huge audience. Some of the tracks of this playlist became real hits. Whole generations of musicians, especially guitarists, copied Metheny’s playing using guitar synthesizers on a very new way in a jazz-fusion context.
Peak of fame was the hit ‘This is not America’ featuring David Bowie, part of Metheny’s soundtrack for the movie Falcon and the Snowman.
