Eduardo Falú (Argentina) 3/4
Part 3: Final period
Below is a picture of Eduardo Falú ± 1990
‘El Señor del Folklore’ (The Lord of Folklore) is what he is also called, and with reason! An entire life of service to the folklore of his country, Argentina. As a virtuoso on guitar with a deep voice that is very pleasant to the ear, and many compositions and larger musical works to his name. Sometimes in cooperation with other well-known names in this area, he performed his music all over the world with thousands of concerts in the most famous halls of the most famous cities on this planet.
In Japan for example, he made two tours with about 400 concerts. In the late 50s, he performed eighteen concerts in the former USSR and after that, via other European contries, in Paris where he even recorded an entire LP in 1959.
His concerts in the Netherlands also did not go by unnoticed and were sold out. And the visitors of those concerts were experts, as shown by the applause that was given at the recital hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam when Eduardo Falú started singing after a number of instrumentals. All that while the LP that was recorded in the Netherlands contained ‘only’ instrumental pieces. In other words, it was quite a feat for someone who had never had any guitar lessons but taught himself by watching his big brother Alfredo, who had been taught (but became a lawyer). Eduardo Falú did follow some theoretical music lessons, but he is widely known for being autodidact.
In a series of 4 programmes, the Concertzender wants to present to you Eduardo Falú, who is now 86 years old. In his 1st period, from 1950 to 1962, he made records for the Argentinan T-K label (later Music Hall and Caravelle). His 2nd period saw him at Philips where his records were sold internationally. His 3rd period encompasses the part of his life in which he appeared on other records and CD labels.
In these three parts, we will play as many different Argentinian styles and rhythms (dances) as we can.
In the 4th and final part, we take a look at his entire career as a whole, with some special pieces of music. In short, four months of Eduardo Falú. Which is really far too few, seeing as he has almost 500 recorded titles in his oeuvre!
