MORE INFO;

Yannis Patoukas (1989) is a musicologist, electroacoustic composer and improviser currently based in Rotterdam.
When inside a recording studio, he usually follows a more improvisational workflow;
welcoming mistakes, trusting random or open processes and always making the most of the physicality of any analogue device in the vicinity.
He approaches the tape machine or the mixing desk in the same way he approaches his el. guitar; as a fully functional musical instrument.
His recent research involves the exploration of historical, technological and aesthetic crossovers between electroacoustic music and experimental rock music of the late 1960s and early 1970s,
focusing mostly on production and compositional techniques.
“Spectate” was made using material recorded during Yannis’s residency at WORM studio on January, 2022.
These recordings derived from Yannis’s own improvisations in the studio and an improvisation concert which was streamed live on radio WORM –
featuring Lucija Gregov (cello), Henk Bakker (bass clarinet), Matthias Hurtl (live electronics), Lukas Simonis (el.guitar) and Yannis Patoukas (el.guitar).
Sounds were reworked and transformed by using a modular system and several analogue synthesisers. The listener is put to adapt to several spontaneous collisions of
recorded improvisations and (not) carefully constructed noises, often combined with el.guitar and keyboard sounds or interrupted by short clips voices and dialogues.
Produced for WORM / Dr. Klangendum, February 2022.
