The Travel Diaries of Charles Burney, second trip, episode 5: Vienna (part 3).
The fifth instalment of the second journey of music historian, composer and musician Charles Burney (1726-1814). This one he made in 1772 through the Low Countries, Germany and Austria. He wrote “Present State of Music in Germany, The Netherlands and the United Provinces ” because of this trip.
Burney spends a long time in Vienna and goes to many concerts. He hears music by Giovanni Paolo Colonna, among others, and meets the composers Georg Christoph Wagenseil, Johann Adolf Hasse and Johann Baptist Vanhal.
