An educational programme featuring early music. Wind instruments from the Middle Ages up to the Classical period, part 5: the crumhorn and the renaissance trombone, i.e. the ‘sackbut’.
Music for wind instrument players has always been around. But the function of these musicians, their music and the instruments has changed over time. This series sheds some light on these functions and changes.
Today, the fifth episode; about the crumhorn on the one hand, and the trombone and the sackbut on the other hand.
Sackbut is the name for the trombones from the Renaissance and the Baroque.
The crumhorns are very special, because they have a sound like a kazoo. When you have heard one of those, you can recognize it anywhere.
