1- Natalie Merchant.
On this album, this American singer adapted dozens of classic poems to show her daughter the beauty of language. That should not be taken too literally, because Natalie Merchant takes on the role of a different person for each song. Her lyrics delve deep into the characters and evoke a world of their own. 2- The golden age of American popular music : The folk hits.
Originally the folk or regional music transmitted from generation to generation, consisting of narrative songs for every mood and occasion: love, joy, sadness, wedding, work, adultery, illness, death, and so on. The dividing lines between blues, country and singer/songwriters are often thin. Folk songs are often so old that the original composer is unknown. In the 1930s, Alan Lomax and Harry Smith played an important role in preserving American folk songs. They moved to the countryside to record the old folk songs there. CD. 3- Bert Jansch.
Scottish folk singer Bert Jansch was born in Glasgow. He started his career as a street musician, developing a unique style of guitar playing that had a great influence on many artists after him. His popularity and expressiveness earned him the nickname ‘the British Dylan’. Led Zeppelin stole Bert Jansch’s Blackwaterside and converted it into Black Mountain Side. A lawsuit did not come to fruition because Jansch did not have the money for it. He had less success in the 1980s, but after he quit drinking in 1987, he experienced a creative heyday. CD. 4- Flemish folk music 1997.
This includes the life song, the listening song, cabaret and Dutch pop music. The roots of the first three genres go back to the early twentieth century. In variety theaters (and later the revue) there was alternately room for a joke, a serious or a sentimental song. The life song is seen as the more popular variant in which emotions are sung without too much ado. Opposite the life song is the more highly regarded listening song. Cabaret links the (often critical) listening song to humorous conferences. 5- Mirangula : Georgian folk music.
Anzor Erkomaishvili was born in Batumi in then Soviet Georgia into a family with a long musical tradition. His grandfather was the Georgian folk singer Artem Erkomaishvili. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Conservatory in 1969. While still a student, he started collecting and transcribing the polyphonic Georgian folk repertoire, especially from the province of Guria. 6- Románi-Rotá.
A colorful palette of often virtuoso music styles, played by gypsies all over the world. From the Gipsy Kings to the Taraf de Haidouks, the concept of Gypsy music is just as difficult to define as the Roma people themselves. Around one thousand AD they started an often endless journey from South-East India. The reason for this diaspora is only speculated. It is certain that they spread in all directions. The Roma often mixed their music with what was popular in the region where they lived.
