Maurizio Pollini.
On 23 March, master pianist Maurizio Pollini passed away. Unlike most of his fellow master pianists, he did not only perform timeless masterpieces from the Romantic period and the early twentieth century, but he also worked with a modernist edge. In this episode of Contemporary Music, we present three examples.
Programme details:
Luigi Nono – …sofferte onde serene… (Pollini)
Pierre Boulez – Piano sonata no. 2 (Pollini)
Giacomo Manzoni – Masse, omaggio a Edgar Varese (Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Sinopoli with Pollini)
