Drama: music from China.
After years of restrictions, classical music was allowed to be played and enjoyed again in China from 1978 onwards. The conservatories also reopened. Today, we focus on five composers who belonged to the first batch of graduates from the Beijing Conservatory.
– Mo Wuping. Fan I and Fan II. Nieuw Ensemble led by Ed Spanjaard.
– Guo Wenjing. Drama. Rolf Hildebrand, Tobias Liebezeit and Olaf Normann, Chinese cymbals.
– Tan Dun. On Taoism. BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra led by Tan Dun.
– Chen Qigang. Wuxing (The five elements). Orchestre National de France led by Didier Benetti.
– Qu Xiaosong. Mong Dong. Michael Rippon, baritone. Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra led by Kenneth Schermerhorn.
