Mingus at Carnegie Hall – (January 19th 1974)
Although Charles Mingus was already active as a bassist in the early 1940s, it was only in the late 1950s – early 1960s that he became known and popular to a wider audience. Overwhelming records for the Atlantic label, the masterpiece Mingus Ah Um for Columbia Records and a couple of remarkable records for the Candid Label brought Charles Mingus to the forefront of the Avant Garde. Also notable was the record ‘Money Jungle’ with Duke Ellington and Max Roach.
