Duke Ellingtons 70th Birthday Concert.
Duke Ellington was born on 29th April 1899. That is nearly 123 years ago. So in 1969, Duke Ellington turned 70. In November 1969, his 70th birthday was celebrated in England, with concerts in Bristol and Manchester, among other places. The orchestra was still in good shape, Cootie Williams and Cat Anderson were part of it as well as Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves and Harry Carney. New to the orchestra was the Hammond organ of Wild Bill Davis.
