Perhaps the name Astrid Kruisselbrink means nothing to you, but in Eindhoven this composer has been a household name for years. Thanks to us, she is now (once again) on the radio nationwide.
In early 2008, the City of Light thought it was time to devote two concerts to her music. Both concerts show very different sides of her work. From the first concert, we’ll let you hear Goin’ Down, which draws its material from the blues, and Strokes, in which a heavy dissonance is dissected into a lighter texture. The second concert, which we will broadcast in full, consists of her work Septem sapentes. This work refers to the seven modes of presocratic philosophy, but also winks at seven ‘modes’ of composing that Kruisselbrink applies in this work. From pop to avant-garde, from acoustic to electronic, everything is included.
