Old and new French music. As a tribute to Jacques Schols (1935-2016), we play the record ‘Wij zullen doorgaan’. Also, a number of highlights in the career of Adèle Bloemendaal (1933-2017).
Double bass player Jacques Schols played with international jazz legends like Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster and Eric Dolphy. In later years, he was the leader of The Ramblers.
With the Louis van Dijk Trio, he accompanied Ramses Shaffy for years. A highlight in the career of both Shaffy and the Trio was the record ‘Wij zullen doorgaan’ (1972), that will be played in its entirety in this broadcast. Violinist Christiaan Bor can also be heard on this record. Although it wasn’t a huge success, it became a hit in a different version that was used as tune. The picture added to this text, is a portrait of Shaffy, Schols made in the early 70’s.
Furthermore, we play several songs of Adèle Bloemendaal, written by Koos Speenhoff, Jan Boerstoel, Frans Ehlhart, Martin van Dijk, and Jacques Klöters.
