The Tarantella in Luciana and Calabria is closely connected to the life cyclus of the people. It is not only being danced at weddings, but also at processions of saints and especially with carnaval, which is from 17 Januari (the feast of St. Antonius) till the beginning of the Lent. In these two days, children go from door to door to beg for an alm.
Among them is the greedy Carnevale, who also like to steel the sausage above the fire, but also his wife Quaremma, who is called after the Lent. Both figures belong to the traditional carnival in South Italy. What is remarkable, is that Carnevale in Teana is not a straw doll, but a man who is dressed as a straw doll. To give the masked ones nothing brings bad luck. So everybody lets them in and sees their devilish activities. Which are accompanied by musicians with a never-ending Tarantella.
