Bonum Est: a programme on Gregorian Chant. Eastern Liturgies 20 p Grecia Salentina – I passiùna tu Cristù.
In episode 116 of Bonum Est we focus on the paraliturgical kalimera tradition of Salento.
The usage of the Kalimera is very common in southern Italy amongst the agricultural people who have an orthodox background. The usage is also known as "A’Llazzaru" as it has to be sung on "Lazarus Saturday"; this is the Saturday before Palm Sunday and the Holy Week.
"ce ‘gghike i Marta ce i Mataléna n’is doi cunfòrto cinìs Maria
ca na mi’ppiàki tosso ti’ppena ca ìsi’tto’ ccosmos èn’amartìa;
ton ejavénnane ‘on sfurtunàto ce ìpie sflitto ma ce pricò-vo

translation: "Marta and Magdalena comforted Mary so she would not suffer too much over the sins of the world.
They showed Him, the unfortunate, restless and bitter, that it was a conspiracy to crucify Him.
