Bonum Est: a programme on Gregorian Chant. The Mother Gods of Loreto.
In the 26th episode of Bonum Est you will hear the Loreto-Vespers of Antonio Cifra (1584-1629).
In Loreto there exists a cultus around the "holy house" since the 14th century; This is said to be the place where Mary received Jesus. The house was moved by angels from Nazareth to Loreto to keep it out of the hands of Islam.
Just like the Mary-Vespers of Monteverdi (1610), the Loreto-Vespers of Cifra fall back upon a medieval Gregorian form. The returning parts (Psalms en Magnificat) were set anew.
