Between Dreams and Reality

Works by Australian composer Alfred Hill (1869-1960) are the subject of this broadcast. He made a significant contribution to the development of Australia’s own cultural identity.

He wrote more than 500 works, which are a blend of European and New Zealand/Australian folklore and often have a programmatic character. Down under, he is especially known for the song “Waiata Poi,” but in this broadcast, attention is given to some of his orchestral works.
