Leevi Madetoja, pupil and contemporary of Jean Sibelius, was a Finnish composer. His works included folk music from Ostrobothnia (Pohjalaisia), a region of Finland.
He also wrote 4 symphonies, the fourth of which is lost. In the second symphony, he incorporated the tragedy of the Finnish Civil War (1918) and the loss in the process of his brother Yrjö and his friend, the composer Toivo Kuula.
