Podcast over Bach, episode 43. In this episode of Bach & Co, we discuss the performance of the Matthäus Passion in Lochem by the Bach Choir Holland, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, and the Dalfsen Boys’ Choir conducted by Gijs Leenaars.
In 2024, there will be a double anniversary. In that year, the oldest songs of Martin Luther will be 500 years old, and the chorale cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach will be 300 years old. This is a good idea and reason to change our cantata approach. After the Easter season, we will depart from the church calendar and follow the development of Bach’s cantatas chronologically, following in Johann Sebastian’s footsteps, to arrive in 2024 at the extensive commemoration of Bach’s 300 years of chorale cantatas.
