In an Early Evening Stroll you will hear a large portion of the music Mendelssohn wrote for violin and piano. At the age of eleven, he already played both instruments just as virtuoso, and at that age he also began composing for this combination of instruments. Much of Mendelssohn’s music never appeared in print during his life, which does not only apply to his early works but also to his later pieces. He was a rich man and didn’t need to live by his music, furthermore, he was extremely self-critical.
Today: splendid performances by violinist Antje Weithaas and pianist Silke Avenhaus.
