AMERICAN HIGHWAYS #51: Let’s Get Lost
In this episode of American Highways, pianist Guy Livingston brings us Mystery and the Mysterious, with no explanations: music of Meredith Monk and Ingram Marshall. Monk’s “Mercy” is a dance score about giving and receiving grace, about its denial as well. That is according to the incredibly obscure liner notes. Actually I have no idea what it’s about. So I prefer to simply experience it as abstract music, and let my ears wander freely. The same goes for Marshall’s “Fog Tropes,” which uses recordings of fog horns, accompanied by live performers. Let’s get lost!
