The Palace of Nostalgia

tue 7 sep 2021 17:00 hour

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

Wandering through music history.

With an old dress number by the duo Leiber & Stoller, reinterpreted by Kurt Elling. From the same new crooner school comes Matt Dusk (who once aspired to opera, but chose the Sinatra repertoire after hearing Tony Bennett). And it’s all about ‘Old Clothes’ with pianist Wynton Kelly.

Furthermore, Nina Simone with perhaps the most beautiful performance of ‘It might as well be spring’, Edith Piaf in a fine supporting role behind Charles Dumont in ‘Les Amants’.

From the olden days of the gramophone Annette Hanshaw, aka ‘The Personality Girl’, a nice swinging Benny Goodman with Lionel Hampton, Pia Beck with her trio in ‘Bop Kiss’, the Dave Brubeck Quartet, Ray Charles, Blossom Dearie, Art Tatum, Buddy Rich and for the romantic souls Vic Damone with ‘Music from beyond the moon’.
